Today’s blog post is on a topic that is near to most of our hearts – saving money! Now, I’m a Yorkshire woman, so I fully understand how important it is to get a good deal on something.
I like to shop around and save money where I can; I always try to compare deals on car insurance, my phone tariff and even holidays. There’s nothing worse than buying something and then finding it cheaper elsewhere and don’t get me started on places that have a big sale the day after you’ve bought something! Equally, there’s nothing I love more than feeling like I’ve had a good deal and I know many of you feel exactly the same as I do.
Which brings me to the topic of semi-permanent makeup. Where’s the link, you might wonder? Well, I must take one phone call a week from a crying woman who has tried to save money by having her brows tattooed cheaply through a Groupon or Wowcher offer. They get a cheap deal and end up with cheap work, the brows are often poorly done, mismatched, too dark, or in completely the wrong place. In short, they got exactly what they paid for.
I feel incredibly sorry for these clients because often there is nothing I can do for them except recommend laser removal, which on the face is painful and can take more than one treatment. In 90% of cases there is absolutely no point in me ‘trying to make them better’ because that would mean adding more ink to the skin and there’s usually little sense in adding good ink to bad – especially as this means they would then take longer to fade.
On a couple of occasions I have even had ladies who have come to me for a consultation and then go elsewhere because it was cheaper, then return begging me to sort out another technician’s botched job. It’s a frustrating situation for everyone concerned.
I could write a book on why it’s a bad idea to have a procedure as important as semi-permanent makeup done on a cheap Groupon or Wowcher deal, my colleague Lorena Oberg has written an excellent blog on this exact subject here if you’re interested (I get a mention as one of the ‘good guys’ at the end) so I don’t need to go into all the reasons here. But I do want to say that as with anything, you absolutely get what you pay for with semi-permanent makeup.
Your technician, if they’re anything like me has invested many thousands of pounds in their initial and ongoing training, the best equipment and supplies and a clean, registered, professionally managed and equipped premises. I would not be able to afford to do a procedure at Groupon prices, I would make a loss! Those technicians who offer procedures at rock bottom prices, are saving money somewhere in order to make a profit – either on their training, equipment or supplies – so think carefully about how good these ‘deals’ really are.
So, here’s the morale of the story, if you’re going to save money, great. Cut down on your Sky package, or your takeaway coffees, but please, please don’t scrimp on your face as i’ve seen this go wrong so many times before . I don’t want to pick up the phone to you crying in a few weeks time, I’d rather you leave my clinic with a huge smile on your face instead!
